Saint-Isidore, a small town south of Montreal: a boy whose schoolmates stole his clothes and his money, and who started Kyokushin karate at seven to stand up to a school bully. He played hockey, skated, and held his high school’s record for chin-ups. He went on to study kinesiology at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, worked as a bouncer at a nightclub on Montreal’s South Shore, and spent six months collecting garbage to pay his school fees. At 19 he took up wrestling at the Montreal Wrestling Club. In January 2002, at 20, Georges St-Pierre had his first professional MMA fight, in Montreal.
